The Black Earth Fire District falls within the DNR protection zone. Outside of the Village of Black Earth who follow village ordinance for burning, the DNR requires burn permits and use of safe burning practices. Click the link to file for a free burn permit and rules pertaining to burning.

Wisconsin DNR updates this page daily by 9:00 AM with the days fire condition outlook and any messages pertaining to open burn permits. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to check conditions every day they have active fire and adhere to all requirements of their permit.
SPARKY SCHOOL HOUSE
is a program run by the National Fire Protection Agency designed for teaching children about fire safety. They have many topics for families to work on together, and teachers to bring into the classroom.
The "Close Before You Doze" initiative, created by the Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI), promotes closing bedroom doors at night to create a barrier against fire, smoke, and carbon monoxide. A closed door keeps room temperatures under (100^F), compared to over (1000^F) with an open door, significantly increasing survival time.
Modern home fires spread faster due to open floor plans and synthetic materials, reducing escape time from 17 minutes to under 3 minutes, making this simple habit essential for fire safety. Resources can be found at CloseYourDoor.org.

Your local department may have some specific requirements, such as a high school degree, a physical, and a background check. But when it comes down to it, becoming a volunteer firefighter or emergency responder is about having the heart and drive to make a difference. Click here to learn more about fire service trainings. These are typically offered in the evenings at local fire stations. The locations change depending on which departments request the trainings at their location. If the current offering does'nt work for you, check back for other class locations that may open.
Once you join on with a volunteer department, these classes are offered at no cost through a state grant. Departments vary on what they may require for a commitment.
